In partnership with the Vermont Division of Fire Safety, the PVFD is proud to offer the 802 Safe program in our community. 802 Safe is a community risk reduction program. It’s simple and free, with the goal of making every home in Pawlet safer from fire by getting information and detectors out into the community.

802 Safe is offered to any homeowner in our fire district. Our district encompasses the eastern half of Pawlet, including Pawlet Village, all addresses in Pawlet east of Pawlet Village to the Danby town line, all addresses in Pawlet south of Pawlet village to the Rupert town line along Rt. 30, and all addresses north of the village along Rt. 30 to River Road (including all secondary roads off of Rt. 30). The program is also open to residential rental properties that do not fall under the commercial fire code, such as AirBnbs and other short-term rentals.

How does it work? Homeowners sign up with the fire department for a visit. The fire department will make an appointment to send firefighters to your home. These firefighters will give you some basic fire safety information, conduct a quick survey to identify key risk factors in your home and tell you how to solve them, and install brand new smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. It takes about 20 minutes and costs you nothing. We’ll give you tips on making your home safer but it is up to you to act on them. 802 Safe is not a code-enforcement visit. The goal is to prevent emergencies and to make sure that if they do occur, detectors are present to ensure that you and your family get the notification you need to escape safely.
