The Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. We are financed mainly, but not completely, by tax revenue allocated by the Town of Pawlet. The balance comes from fundraising events, grants, and most importantly of all, donations. Our fundraising supports our operating budget and sustains the strategic fund we utilize to make major capital investments, such as fire trucks. Besides the acquisition and maintenance of the trucks and upkeep to our station, major expenses the fire department incurs include personal protective equipment, fire suppression equipment such as hoses and nozzles, VHF radios and pagers, insurance, and dispatching services – yes, we pay for the dispatcher you talk to when you call 911 to report a fire! What we do not pay for is labor, our most important resource. Our firefighters are entirely volunteers, donating their time and energies without any monetary compensation whatsoever. This allows us to run a highly professional emergency services organization on a razor-thin budget. We deliver these services completely free. A fire in your home or a a car crash might be the worst day of your life. We believe that when something bad happens, a strong, caring community like Pawlet turns out to help – no bill at the end. That’s who we are as a community! Your support of our community fire department makes this possible.

Donating to us directly goes above and beyond the support we might get from fundraising events. Running fundraising events requires a tremendous amount of work and significant overhead expenses. Donating directly puts 100% of the funds into our operational budget, and best of all, sending us a donation directly takes the burden of fundraising off the shoulders of our volunteer firefighters. This allows our members to focus their time on training and emergency response, not fundraising.

As a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, your donation is fully tax deductible.
