The Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. We are financed partially by tax revenue allocated by the Town of Pawlet, and the balance comes from fundraising events, grants, and donations. Pawlet taxpayers provide us with approximately two thirds of our operating budget, the rest we raise ourselves. These funds are utilized to purchase and maintain truck, tools, and personal protective equipment for fire suppression, rescue, and other critical functions. It also pays for dispatch services, insurance, fuel, and upkeep to our station. Not a cent goes to our firefighters, who are entirely volunteers, donating their time and energies without any monetary compensation.
We host some great fundraising events, including our famous auction in July and our Game Supper in November. These are cherished community occasions with rich histories, but donating directly goes above and beyond the support we get from a fundraising event. Running these fundraising events requires a tremendous amount of work and significant overhead expenses. Donating directly is more efficient, putting 100% of the funds into our operational budget. Best of all, sending us a donation directly takes the burden of fundraising off the shoulders of our volunteer firefighters. This allows our members to focus their time on training and emergency response, not fundraising. Your donation is also tax deductible.
